Prof. John Ribeiro

Professor John Ribeiro is the founder and head instructor of RMA Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Franklin, Tennessee.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, John Ribeiro has dedicated 20+ years to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a world champion, competitor, and coach. His lineage traces directly through Carlos Gracie Sr. → Reylson Gracie → Paulo Mauricio Strauch → Marcelo Ribeiro → John Ribeiro.

A 2021 IBJJF Worlds Heavyweight Champion and 2021 Abu Dhabi World Professional Heavyweight Champion, John has earned 60+ IBJJF Open Championship medals and competed in more than 70 matches in 2021 alone, with an 87% win rate.

While competition has been an important part of John’s journey, his greatest passion has always been the people and community that Jiu-Jitsu brings together. That passion naturally led John to coaching, where for more than 10 years he has had the privilege of helping kids and adults grow in confidence, discipline, and resilience. His goal is to create a welcoming community where every student feels supported, challenged, and inspired to become their best self — both on and off the mats.
